Individual or Man-Marking
Each individual in the team has the responsibility to mark a specific number or person on the opposing team. You must try to mirror the movements of the person you are defending and not be caught flat footed. The intention of this tactic is to win the ball back quickly.
Alternatively, this system can be used in conjunction with the box or diamond defence system, where you man mark the first of the opposing team to enter your box. This is sometimes called "man-to-man in a restricted zone"
two very important points to remember:
1. Do not to follow the player into an area of low offensive value - in other words, stay in your defensive zone.
2. Make sure you stay between the oposing player and the goal.
