What standard of play are you looking for? Youmay (or may not) be aware that I am trying to set something up for those people like me who are not catered for tournament wise by the club we belong to - I think Southsea probably has 4 or 5 people in this situation. And I believe Tony Noble's club Ely, may be in a simular situation. So is there an opportunity to get a mini tournament going here? We are probably looking at your standard of play at Eastbourne but without Nathan

Use the Sat training to arrange friendlys and as long as they make the hall hire cost. I will try to sort some other matches for both teams.

meeting the cost of hall hire goes without saying.

I am asking the Southsea players tonight. Tony Noble is asking Ely later in the week. Fingers crossed.

Can you give me some ideas about what time of day you are talking about, and what the cost of the hall hire is?

We can have the hall between 3 and 5pm on Saturdays, so we would need to be ready to start playing at 3pm to fit 3 matches in. I will confirm costs tomorrow after our training session.

There is sufficient interest, although I have become very sceptical about people doing what they say they will at Southsea. I am waiting for confirmation of dates available but the last weekend suggested seems to be preferable.

News from Peter:

Speaking to our players on Tuesday night, we are up for a mini tournament against Leighton Buzzard and Ely. This will be for players at Southsea who are not catered for in the leagues we have entered - i.e. National Div 1, Vets Trophy and Junior Cup.

We are leaning towards the weekend at the end of October. Can you let me know if this causes your club a problem?

I have finally found out about what insurance is required. If you play games purely within the club then the £5 training only registration with NRHA suffices. Playing against any other club requires full registration - £35 for adults. So I have fully registered

If this works out, do you fancy a repeat event at Southsea - outside? We have to clear the skate park rink a day or two before we play tournaments so we could play on the Saturday afternoon/evening - we have outdoor lights as well. There is nothing quite like playing outdoors.

I am also going to find out about the state of the Adur rink - Brighton. The club folded but I believe the rink is still there - we used their goals for Eastbourne. If it is in a good condition, it might be good to get some RH going there again - inspire the locals to come back and play again.

Peter

I will finalise the first tournament, but in the mean time what do the Bulldogs B team think to a return tournament at Southsea later in the year?

If all the work is going into clearing the southsea rink is there any chance of getting the Bulldogs A and a junior team down and call it a weekend of hockey ??

Nathan - re: your suggestion about getting a few more teams down to Southsea, I was wondering about that myself. If Southsea ar eholding a Sunday tournament then maybe we can use the Saturday for a different set of teams playing. We have a meeting with the City Council, the rinl owners, this afternoon so I'll see what Eddie Spencer (Club Secetary) has to say at the end of the meeting. The only problem with the National Div 1 games at the rink, they are in March - a bit cold. The Junior Cup is, I believe, a knockout event, so it is unlikely that we will hold that at the rink. And the other main tournaments will be two full days - Lennards and Vets.

Anyway, I'll see what we can offer.

I have just finished speaking to Peter Avarillo at the Adur rink. It is laid out for Roller Hockey and has two goals - we used them at Eastbourne. He is quite interested in us having a tournament there - cost will be about £10 per team. It's floated concrete so it wil hjav eto b ea dry day - late Spring I guess. If we can have the rink for a day we could make it a bit bigger in terms of team numbers. No changing facilities though.

Comments?

Just a quick update on the friendly tournament at Leighton Buzzard. Ely have confirmed that they will have a team for October 30th, so we are one step closer.

Peter, let me know when you are able to confirm your team.

Thanks all.
